Furnaces that don’t work right could be wasting energy, causing poor air quality in the home, or failing to regulate the temperature properly to keep the house warm. If there are any signs that the furnace isn’t working as expected, it’s important to make sure it’s fixed right away. Some of the most common signs that something is wrong and the furnace needs to be repaired include the following.

    Weird Noises

If the furnace is making weird noises, it’s likely that something is broken and needs to be repaired. No one wants to find out their furnace isn’t working when the temperatures are low, so at the first sign of an odd noise, it’s a good idea to call in the professionals for help. They can fix whatever is causing the noise before anything else breaks.

    Turning On and Off Fast

If the furnace is turning on and off rapidly, it’s a sign that there is an issue with the burners or ignitor. These short cycles can indicate a major problem and are definitely a sign that the furnace needs to be inspected and repaired. If left without being repaired, the furnace could stop working completely.

    Overheating and Turning Off

If the furnace is turning off before the home is warm, it’s likely because it’s overheating. This can cause the limit switch to flip, which turns off the furnace. The home won’t reach the right temperature if this is happening, so it will need to be repaired right away to keep the home warm.

    Tripped Safety Switch

If there are blockages in the drain line for the furnace or the pump is broken, it could lead to water backing up in the system. This will cause the safety switch to flip to prevent more damage to the furnace. If this does happen, do not just flip the safety switch and continue using the system. Instead, call for help right away.

    Blowing Cool Air

If the furnace is blowing cool air, it may be that there are settings that are wrong or the air filter is too dirty. Try cleaning out the air filter and making sure the settings are correct. If this doesn’t fix the issue, it is necessary to call in the professionals, as the cool air could be the result of a heating element that’s not working properly.

    Water Pooling Near It

Water pooling under the furnace will likely mean that there’s an issue with the heat exchanger. Clean up the water right away to prevent water damage to the home and call a professional to have the heat exchanger inspected and fixed or replaced.

    Burner Flame is Not Blue

The burner’s flame on a gas furnace should be blue. If it’s yellow or another color, that’s a sign that something is wrong with the furnace and it’s not working properly. Call in the professionals to have them take a look at the system to see what needs to be fixed.

If you’ve noticed any of these issues with your furnace or there’s anything else that seems off, it’s best to call for repairs right away. Prompt repairs can help you save money in the long run, as issues will be fixed before they get worse. Call today to get the furnace repaired or to schedule maintenance services to help keep it in good shape.
