This makes quenching a delicate step that must be carefully controlled to ensure the desired material characteristics are obtained without introducing adverse effects like cracking.
    • Tempering: Tempering is a complementary process to quenching. It involves reheating the metal to a specific temperature below its critical point. This step mitigates the brittleness introduced in quenching and balances hardness and toughness. In industrial applications, tempering ensures the metal can withstand environmental and mechanical stresses without failure, making it invaluable in fields requiring high-performance materials.
